Sexual Orientation Discrimination

Currently, there is no federal law protecting gays and lesbians from sexual orientation discrimination. However, Congress is considering a law called the Employment NonDiscrimination Act. If this legislation becomes law, sexual orientation discrimination would be prohibited and gays and lesbians would enjoy the same workplace protections as other protected groups.

Although there is no federal law protecting sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace, many states, counties, and municipalities and have passed laws and ordinances outlawing discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
