The Equal Pay Act requires employers to pay male employees and female employees the same wages for the same work. In all too many work places, male employees, particularly managers, are paid more than their female counterparts. In some instances, women employees are paid more than male employees. Regardless of the gender being impacted, an employer must pay men and women the same when they perform the same work.
In 2008, the Congress passed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. This law ensures that employees can bring equal pay claims regardless of when the employer began its discriminatory pay practice.
Often, equal pay claims are brought as class actions.
